Senior-Parent Recognition at Final Home Regular Season Match.
Mount Vernon Christian recognized the four Senior members of the Boys’ Soccer program, along with their parents, Wednesday afternoon following their 8-0 win over Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood at Varsity Field on the MVC campus.
Head Coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth shared about Logan Mounts, Sean Russell, Lane Tenborg and Aaron Tueitjer during the ceremony. To read a small selection of Coach Wohlgemuth’s comments about each Senior, please use the following link back to the homepage:

October 1, 2025. “October Soccer” Set to Start Friday.
The PNW is excited for “October Baseball”, a phrase the Seattle Mariners are using as they play baseball in October for only the fifth time in franchise history. That also explains why the first batch of official “October Baseball” merchandise sold out in just seven minutes.

With the calendar changing to a new month, the Mount Vernon Christian Boys’ Soccer program is ready to begin “October Soccer”. In both cases, the more the Hurricanes and Mariners win, the better the results will be.

MVC has eight Northwest League and District One matches in front of them during October, that will determine placement into the combined District One and Two Tournament.

The Hurricanes finished their non-league portion of this season with a 5-0-3 record. While their five wins came against schools – Auburn Adventist Academy, Providence Classical Christian, Coupeville, Evangel Classical School, Grace Academy – with a combined records of just 6-18-3, MVC’s most impressive match results have come against three of best schools around the State, where they earned respectable draws with Evergreen Lutheran, Saint George’s School, and Orcas Island. All three matches finished at 1-1. Those three schools have a combined record of 13-2-2 as of today.

“We’re fully aware that any match could swing from a win to a loss or a loss to a win or a tie to one or the other, but at this point in the season with the challenging schedule we’ve had, we’re excited for how we’re playing at this point,” Head Coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth shared.

Whether a quirk in the scheduling or just the result of how schools have fared in their non-league matches, The Hurricanes, who are among the State’s best, will face two of the top District One schools in their first three Northwest League and District One October matches. Friday, October 3, MVC will ferry over to San Juan Island for a match on Linde Community Field against the Friday Harbor Wolverines. A week later on Friday October 10, MVC will host a solid Orcas Island Viking team. In between, the Hurricanes will travel to Bothell on Tuesday, October 7, to face Providence Classical Christian, who has not demonstrated consistency in their play thus far.

In looking at his squad’s Northwest League and District One schedule, Wohlgemuth said, “The first couple weeks of league matches should give us a pretty good barometer for where we stand, and we’re looking to ride the momentum all the way through November.”

After their opening three matches, MVC’s final five regular season matches occur between October 15 – 28. Presently, only the home match on Monday, October 20 with Lopez Island will be against a school with a winning season record. That match is sandwiched between two contests before – home with Coupeville on Tuesday, October 14 and at La Conner on Friday, October 17 and two matches after – home with Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood on Wednesday, October 22 and down in Marysville on Tuesday, October 28 with Grace Academy.

Coach Wohlgemuth has been able to utilize his bench throughout September’s non-league matches while relying on program veterans to carry a lot of the weight.

“Young contributors are starting to gain their confidence and footing, and veterans like Sean Russell, Logan Mounts, and Lane Tenborg are already at mid-season form and leading the way,” Wohlgemuth noted before adding, “Connor Mounts, Grady Woodmansee, and Walker Wohlgemuth – all underclassmen- are playing very well and are neutralizing the attack and strengths of our opponents.”

Additionally, six players, who add valuable minutes and keen field sense, solidifying the Hurricanes’ defense and offense are Nolan Wohlgemuth, Zane Dahlberg, Kyler Woodmansee, Noah VanderKooy, Seth Russell and Sam Kincaid, providing Coach Wohlgemuth with a sound, twelve-player match rotation.

The results from “October Soccer”, along with the District One and Two Tournament to be played in early November, will determine if the Hurricanes claim one of the five allocations from Western Washington into the WIAA 1B/2B Boys’ Soccer State Quarterfinals. The other three State Tournament allocations will come from schools in District Five and Six following their East Cascades Tournament also to be played in early November.

“The squad is feeling hopeful and expectant,” Coach Wohlgemuth expressed.

And there appears to be good reason for such optimism considering the results the Hurricanes have turned in during their September matches. MVC has shown they can play well in the defensive third, middle third, and offensive third of the field, which only a few schools Statewide have demonstrated the ability to do. In fact, only nine of the State’s 24 schools currently have a winning record nearing the halfway point in their seasons.

“Perhaps the best part of this is that we haven’t even nudged our best game or form on the pitch,” Wohlgemuth offered.

August 30, 2025. Hurricane 2025 Season Preview.
The Mount Vernon Christian Boys’ Soccer program enters the 2025 season with a great deal of excitement and high expectations. Head Coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth and staff greeted 24 prospective Varsity players onto the campus field for their initial turnouts this past week.

Wohlgemuth, in his seventh season at MVC, welcomes a relatively young squad with just four seniors, but one that has eight returning starters and a host of other players who saw considerable Varsity field experience a season ago. MVC has the most returning starters among the top four schools in the Northwest League and District One. “I’m very excited about the group this year. There’s a good balance of veterans and youngsters and I can’t wait to see how we all come together,” Wohlgemuth shared.

Last fall, the Hurricanes finished 9-5-1 for the season. They went 5-1-1 in their non-league matches, but their 4-4-0 record against Northwest League/ District One schools left MVC out of the postseason, something that the Hurricanes are definitely not accustomed to for the boys’ soccer program.

The Hurricanes should find themselves right in the mix among top league/district schools as they contend for a championship and postseason spot this season. “The boys came out prepared, focused, and ahead of where we’ve been most years,” said an optimistic Coach Wohlgemuth based on what he witnessed after the first week of turnouts.

The student-athletes who will put on a Varsity uniform with the Hurricane soccer crest this season are (listed alphabetically by grade):
Seniors:  Logan Mounts, Sean Russell, Lane Tenborg, Aaron Tueitjer.
Juniors: John Borisov, Zane Dahlberg, Josh Habeus, Nolan Wohlgemuth, Kyler Woodmansee.
Sophomores: Sam Kincaid, Connor Mounts, Noah VanderKooy, Grady Woodmansee, Cody Wright.
Freshman: Zach Fitzgerald, Hudson McCarty, Ewan Oosterwyck, Rhyson Oostra, Ryan Russell, Seth Russell, Ivan Swinsburnson, Evan Visser, Walker Wohlgemuth.
Eighth Grade: Landon Lehecka.

“The balance and diversity of this team is becoming apparent,” stated Wohlgemuth when asked about his squad. Although not providing additional specifics, there was a glimpse of things to expect from his further comment. “Positions for everyone are still pretty fluid. This is probably the most ‘soccer-talented’ group I’ve had, so we’ve got a lot of options with personnel, formation, and moving pieces; stay tuned for those,” added Wohlgemuth. We certainly will!

MVC has four seniors poised to successfully close out their final high school soccer season. Each has a unique and varied path that brings them to this place.

Logan Mounts is expected to be in goal for the Hurricanes again this season. After playing two seasons as a left outside back, Mounts stepped into goal as a junior and developed throughout the season. “This season I’m looking forward to challenging ourselves against tough opponents and proving what MVC soccer is all about,” Mounts offered. He recorded five shutouts and had four other matches where just a single goal was scored against him and his defense. Mounts also expressed, “The standard here has always been high, and I expect us to live up to that by playing with heart, discipline, and unity every match!”

Sean Russell is coming off a difficult junior season where he was hampered by a knee injury that slowed his production and play. As a sophomore, Russell scored nine goals for the Hurricanes as a midfielder and forward. “Starting off this season, coming back from an injured knee, and an unfinished year, I’m really excited for this season with the addition of senior Lane Tenborg and the new kids stepping on to the field,” said Russell about this year’s team. Russell appears back at full strength and at 6’-4”, he should be a sizable force wherever he’s at on the field. “I’m looking forward to a great season with a great team,” Russell declared.

Lane Tenborg, who transferred across the Skagit Flats from La Conner as a junior to attend school at MVC, was not eligible for soccer and sat out varsity matches last season. He is ready to compete with this year’s teammates. “I’m extremely motivated to make an impact this year. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success and being part of the MVC soccer program,” confirmed Tenborg, who netted five goals for the Braves in 2023. “I’m really looking forward to competing on the pitch with my teammates this season and building on the chemistry we’ve been working on. I think we have the talent and passion this year to add a second star above the badge [crest].”

The fourth senior will be Aaron Tueitjer, who comes to MVC as an exchange student by way of Leer, Germany. He has grown up around soccer and has played for eight years, liking the competitiveness of the sport. Back in Germany, Tueitjer enjoyed playing left wing back and lining up as a striker. From the brief time he has been with the MVC program and teammates, Tueitjer said, “The team has been very friendly to me as I am new here.  I have enjoyed getting to know the players and coaches.” With regard to the upcoming season, he adds, “We have really good players and as we improve our teamwork, I think our team is capable of winning the state tournament.  I am looking forward to the season.”

This fall, it appears the Hurricanes have a favorable schedule awaiting them. The slate of matches for the season looks to be divided again into three chunks. The first portion begins with eight non-league matches during September, followed by eight significant Northwest League/District One matches to be played in October.  The results of the eight October matches will determine if the Hurricanes compete during the third section of the season. If all goes well for MVC, they will be playing matches in November as part of the postseason including the District One/Two Tournament, the 1B/2B State Quarterfinals, and finally State Championship Weekend, which will be held at Federal Way Memorial Stadium.

This season’s schedule can be found by clicking on the “Schedule” tab above on this site.

Hurricane soccer alums Tyler Houtsma, who played from 2011-2014 and Matthew Wyatt, who played from 2018-2021 will again be on the sideline as assistant coaches.

When asked for a final thought for the preview, Wohlgemuth acknowledged, “I believe we have a talented group, a tight-knit group, a gritty group, and a group that sees a championship in their future,”

With the final horn of the 2025 Girls’ State 2B Basketball Consolation Semi-Final game last Friday, Mount Vernon Christian Head Coach Jeff Droog closed out his fifteen-year coaching stint with the Hurricanes. His “retirement” is the result of Droog accepting the call to become the next Superintendent of Lynden Christian Schools beginning in July.

When Droog took over the girls’ varsity basketball team for the 2010-11 season, MVC was one of the smaller 1B schools in the State and there were not enough girls interested in basketball to field a JV team. He worked tirelessly promoting and developing an upstart program. Besides effective coaching strategies, individualized player training, shooting and skill workouts, and structured offseason practices were offered. Additionally, he took players to a variety of team camps and organized a youth basketball program. Droog and his players also offered a summer camp on campus. This led to improved basketball IQ, offensive and defensive skills, a team familiarity, and chemistry. Droog was instrumental in arranging a Christmas Tournament at MVC bringing in top-notched schools and scheduled difficult non-league games in order to see where his Hurricanes could strive to achieve. Just as important, Droog established a working rapport with other seasoned coaches around the State and traded resources, tactics, and coaching tips.

As accurately as we can figure, here are just a few of the many impressive statistics from Droog’s tenure. The Hurricanes
~ earned ten State 1B and 2B Tournament appearances
~ had a string of seven consecutive State Tournament appearances from 2017-18 to present
~ trophied seven times at the State Tournament
~ won the 2021-22 State 1B Girls State Tournament
~ claimed a number of Northwest 1B District One and Tri-District Championships,
~ had 289 wins and 104 losses overall during fifteen seasons for a 74% winning percentage
~ finished with a winning record 14 of 15 seasons, including eight 20+ win seasons.

As the program flourished, Droog and his longtime varsity assistant Donnie Keltz made sure their approach always remained true to what Christian high school athletics and its student-athletes should represent. Yearly themes were tied to applicable Bible verses and meaningful devotions were shared that reinforced program and life values such as preparation, humility, grace, respecting opponents, gratitude, and service as they pursued championships, along with using gifts and abilities from the Lord to bring glory to God wherever and whenever they competed.

An aspect of the program that often went unnoticed was the behind-the-scenes work and support that was provided by Droog’s wife, Monica. She was ever-present and embodied the selflessness it takes to be a coach’s wife. Among many things she did through the years, Monica organized and supplied numerous team dinners, laundered hundreds of uniforms, worked tournaments, and was instrumental in providing an important stability and care for the program’s student-athletes and staff.

We have all heard the adage that you should try to leave thing better than when you found them. Just as he had done hundreds of previous times after games, Droog was the last to leave the bench area at the Spokane Arena following this season’s final game. He made sure all the team gear was accounted for, the area had been cleaned up, and the team chairs were straightened up ready for the next game. Finally, he sought out the court supervisor and arena personnel to humbly thank each for their efforts.

Together Jeff and Monica Droog changed the girls’ basketball culture at Mount Vernon Christian and have definitely left the MVC Girls’ Basketball program in a much better place.
November 29, 2024. MVC Defender Earns First Team Recognition; Two Others Honorable Mention.
The nine District One boys’ soccer coaches that represent schools from the Northwest 2B/1B League and the Northwest 1B League recently completed their balloting for the 2024 season’s individual and team recognition awards.

Cody Brown, a Senior defender for Mount Vernon Christian (shown above), was the lone Hurricane to be recognized on the All-Northwest 2B/1B League/Northwest 1B League First Team.
Brown was selected as a Second Team Defender a season ago as a Junior. Earlier this month, he was also named the MVC boys’ soccer program’s ‘Defensive Player of the Year’.“He is selfless, he is caring, he is positive, he is relentless, and he is absolutely consistent in all of those things and in everything he does,” head coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth had previous said of Brown.

Two other Hurricanes were recognized by the coaches for their season’s work. Lucas Millenaar, a Senior Forward and Zane Dahlberg, a Sophomore Defender/Midfielder, both earned Honorable Mention honors. Brown, Millenaar and Dahlberg will now have their names added to the long list of All-League performers in MVC Boys’ Soccer history. (click on the ‘Record Book’ tab and scroll down to All-League to see other Hurricanes previously honored.)

Orcas Island, the League/District Champion and WIAA State Champion, and Lopez Island, the Bi-District Tournament Champion and League/District and WIAA State Runner-Up, both had seven players on either First Team, Second Team or Honorable Mention list. The Lobos swept the other three major Awards – Andris Meissner, a junior midfielder/forward, was the ‘Most Valuable Player’; head coach Mycah Kraushaar was the ‘Coach of the Year’, and the ‘Team Sportsmanship Award’ also went to Lopez Island.
November 14, 2024. Hurricanes Recognized during End-of-the-Season Gathering.
During the evening’s End-of-the-Season Gathering held tonight, all MVC Boys’ Soccer participants were recognized and items shared about them to the family and friends that were in attendance.
Additionally, five players were singled out for their individual and team leadership during the Hurricanes’ 2024 season. Those recipients and their related award were

Lucas Millenaar, Offensive Player of the Year.
Cody Brown, Defensive Player of the Year.
Kyler Woodmansee, Most Improved Player.
Cody Brown and John Borisov, Most Inspirational Players.
Walker Wohlgemuth, Newcomer of the Year.
Kyler Woodmansee
, 2024 Coach’s Award.

Later this month, the Northwest 2B/1B League All-League Boys’ Soccer selections will be announced. When they are released, those MVC players who earn this recognition will be listed here and added to the “Program History” for All-League selection.
November 2, 2024. Hurricanes 2024 Season Comes to an Abrupt End with Home Loss.
Mount Vernon Christian and Friday Harbor took to the Hurricane’s home field Saturday afternoon knowing the winner would advance into the postseason, while the other school would see its season come to a close.
Friday Harbor scored one first half goal, added two more in the second half before MVC netted a late goal, and the Wolverines posted a 3-1 win that allows them to claim the #4 Seed into the Northwest District One/Two Tournament next week. Both schools finished 4-4-0 in League/District matches, but Friday Harbor earned the tiebreaker as a result of their win today.
Mount Vernon Christian, after a strong win yesterday on Lopez Island, unfortunately sees its season come to an abrupt end without a postseason appearance. Except for the 2020 Covid season when an actual postseason did not happen, MVC has appeared in the extended portion of the season every year since 1998.
The Hurricanes finish 9-5-1 overall this season.

Please see the post below about the four Seniors who will be graduating from the program with the conclusion of the 2024 season.
November 2, 2024.Senior Recognition Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon, Mount Vernon Christian, its athletic department, the school community, and the Boys’ Soccer program recognized the four Seniors from this year’s squad at their final home match. Those Seniors pictured above (left to right) are Zander Walker, a defender and midfielder who has played varsity the last two seasons; Lucas Millenaar, who as a forward, has been an all-league selection the past two seasons during a four-year varsity career; Cody Brown, a center defender during three varsity seasons and an all-league selection last season; and Eli Sanchez, a three-year varsity midfielder and forward for the Hurricanes.

The words, provided below about the four, are from Head Coach Jeremiah Wohlgemuth:
Cody Brown  ~ There’s not much that needs to be said about Cody that everyone in the State doesn’t already know…and at the same time, there’s so much to say about Cody. Everyone knows Cody, and everyone likes and enjoys Cody.  He is a walking example of personality, and a perfect example of God’s love for others.  Cody emerged as a force several years ago and has only gotten more athletic and strong.  He’s anchored our defense during that time and has solidified himself as one of the heartbeats of this team. Though he’ll be gone after this year, every one of the rest of his teammates that remain will thrive off that heartbeat for the rest of their lives, much less their time here.  He is selfless, he is caring, he is positive, he is relentless, and he is absolutely consistent in all of those things and in everything he does.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourself, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others.” -Philippians 2:3-4.

Lucas Millenaar ~ Lucas is the epitome of calm, cool, and collected.  He is the teammate that every group of teen athletes needs. He can be relied upon, he is trustworthy, he is patient and he is kind. At the same time… he is fierce, determined, and driven. He has the ability to carry his team, not only with his playing, but with his demeanor and personality. Lucas has been a proven and effective attacker for us the past four years and has risen into the top 15 in scoring at MVC. He’s shown the next generation of soccer players how to conduct themselves on and off the field, with high expectations, consistent production, and a relentless pursuit of perfection. There are many things we’ll miss about Lucas, and very few of them have to do with soccer.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” -James 1:12.

Eli Sanchez ~ Eli is hard-working, light-hearted, and heavy-footed.  He comes to the pitch with a great attitude each and every day, and attacks his pursuit of becoming better with determination and pride. He is a great teammate, including everyone in everything, and helps to hold them to the same standard as himself. Eli has been willing to do whatever the team needs, whether it’s coming off the bench, starting, or playing multiple positions, all with a smile on his face and a positive demeanor.  He can frequently be observed checking in on his teammates and coaches, and does so with a genuine care and concern.  Eli provided a spark in more than a few games, and that energy has always been apparent in the way his teammates play beside him.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” -Philippians 4:8.

Zander Walker ~ Zander is one of the most determined, singularly-focused athletes I’ve seen here at a MVC.  For four years he has pursued a significant and meaningful role on this team.  This year he resoundingly achieved that! Not only did he break into the lineup, he carried us in several games when we needed a spark.  He played relentlessly on the wing and in defense, seemingly never tiring, and was always asking what he needs to do to improve.  He was supremely coachable, and in turn, was there to coach-up his teammates in practice and games. He expects perfection from himself and he expects it from them as well, and knows how to bring it out in everyone he’s around, including the coaches.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” -James 1:2-4.

November 1, 2024. Hurricanes Pick Up Huge Win Today.
Mount Vernon Christian scored on a well struck lofted shot goal part way through the first half at Lopez Island and then hunkered down on the sloppy, narrow field, defended their goal from all eleven positions, got an amazing goalkeeping save late in the match and picked up a huge 1-0 victory over the host Lobos.
The MVC win sets up tomorrow’s regular season finale on their home field with Friday Harbor. A Hurricane victory may well clinch at least the #4 Seed into the District One/Two Tournament, which begins Tuesday, November 5.

Please click on“Match Recaps”above later in the evening to learn more about the match.
