“We played and passed well. Coupeville got a 4th minute goal against the run of play, but the Hurricanes never looked back, scoring four consecutive goals including a hat-trick from Grady Woodmansee and four assists from Zane Dahlberg.
The Wolves early goal came from Edmund Wilson off a misplayed ball, but MVC responded with two goals by Grady Woodmansee (9th, 35th) and one from Connor Mounts in the 20th [to lead 3-1 at the break].
A few minutes into the second half, Woodmansee got his third goal to end the scoring.”

Next Match:
The Hurricanes will host Skagit County rival La Conner on Tuesday, October 13. The match starts at 4:00PM and will be played on the MVC campus. The Braves lost their last match yesterday, 6-1 to Friday Harbor in La Conner.

There were questions of a hand ball or if the ball had crossed the line, but no call was made.
– If Orcas wins their remaining regular season matches, they will claim the Northwest League/District One Championship. If the Vikings end up with a regular season loss, MVC could be involved in a three-way tie for the top spot.
– The Hurricanes and Vikings are currently tied for the most shutouts (5) in the State this fall.

“In a matchup of two top-ranked teams, Orcas Island got a 9th minute goal from Junior Conejo Medina and held on for the 1-0 win. Orcas held much of the possession in the first half, but the Hurricanes battled back in the second, resulting in several corner kicks, shots, and opportunities but couldn’t come away with the equalizer.“

Next Match:
The Hurricanes will take Highway 20 over to Whidbey Island for a Saturday afternoon, October 10 match with Coupeville. The scheduled start is 1:00PM. The Wolves have had a successful beginning to their season, sitting with a 7-2-0 overall record following their victory over Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood this afternoon.
Saturday’s match will be the first for Coupeville against any of the top four schools from District One. They still have upcoming contests with Friday Harbor, Providence Classical Christian and Orcas Island, besides Saturday’s match with MVC.

“The Hurricanes dominated much of the play throughout the game with poise and possession and came out with a 3-1 win. Connor Mounts opened the scoring on a 9th minute penalty kick. In the 27th minute, Grady Woodmansee put a way a scrum-ball inside the six-yard box to make it 2-0 going into the half. Shortly into the second half, Nolan Wohlgemuth flicked on a ball to Connor Mounts who slotted it into the net for the final goal. Providence Classical scored in the 72nd minute to ruin the shutout.”

Next Match:
The Hurricanes will next play in a Northwest League/District One match on Wednesday, October 7, traveling out to Orcas Island.
The match will feature the top-two RPI listed 1B/2B boys’ soccer schools in the State this fall. Neither school has a loss thus far; Mount Vernon Christian has two match draws, while Orcas Island has one, which came in the non-league match between the Hurricanes and Vikings two weeks ago at Mount Vernon Christian that was played to a scoreless draw.
Both MVC and Orcas Island have been extremely hard to defensively breakdown thus far, yielding only three and four goals respectively all season.

The Hurricanes will host Providence Classical Christian on Thursday, October 1 in a 4:00PM Northwest League/District One match. The Highlanders (2-1-1 Overall) open their League/District play with a home match against winless Grace Academy tomorrow. MVC and PCC opened the season back on September 10 in Bothell, where they played to a 2-2 non-league draw.

The Hurricanes will travel by ferry over to Lopez Island on Monday, September 28 for a 4:00PM match with the Lobos. This will be the first of nine Northwest League/District One matches for both schools. Lopez Island (0-2-0) have a non-league match at Providence Classical Christian Friday, September 25.

“What was a rematch of the 2025 State semifinals proved to be a good matchup early with Saint George’s throwing everything they had against the Hurricanes. MVC was up to the task, earning a 17th minute goal from Nolan Wohlgemuth off a Landon Lehecka assist. The Hurricanes came out swirling in the second half, with three goals – 43rd minute – Sam Kincaid from Grady Woodmansee, 65th minute – Walker Wohlgemuth from Zane Dahlberg, and the 69th minute – Connor Mounts from Walker Wohlgemuth, and held on for the 4-0 victory. Tomorrow, September 11, the Hurricanes will ferry to San Juan Island to meet Friday Harbor in their second Non-League contest. The match will begin at 4:15PM and be played on the spacious Linde Community Field.
This will be the 46th meeting between the Hurricanes and Wolverines. MVC has a 28-17-0 advantage in their all-time series with Friday Harbor.
The Hurricanes won the League/District match a year ago in a shootout, after playing to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime.
